The most common claim on Reddit is that "Nurosym is just an expensive TENS." It deserves an honest answer. Both devices send gentle electrical pulses to a point on the ear to stimulate the auricular branch of the vagus nervetranscutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation, or taVNS. The goal is the same: nudge the nervous system out of fight-or-flight and support vagal tone.

The DIY TENS route: what people actually do

People buy an inexpensive TENS, add an ear clip, and stimulate the ear themselves, sharing the general parameters they settled on (a low frequency, short pulse width, low current).
